Old Stuff

I went to the Raja Dinakar Kelkar Museum today. The museum consists of pieces from Kaka Kelkar's personal collection. He started the collection to honour his son Raja who died an untimely and tragic death. Kaka died around 10 years ago, so the museum is now the property of the city.
There are over 21,000 pieces in the collection, but only a small fraction of that are able to be viewed by the public. The collection is rather varied and includes: cookware and utensils, fabrics, tools, weapons, bathroom implements (combs, etc.), doors & doorways, windows, containers, and art. The time period for the pieces is largely the past 300 or 400 years, but there are older pieces as well.
The part that I found most interesting were the carvings of various Hindu gods and goddesses. There were probably 50 of them and they were all amazing. Some were in ivory, some wood and stone, others metal. Another interesting section was the collection of camel skin oil containers (that would easily hold 100 litres).
